Tools for writing: Aeron chair

I’ve just taken delivery of my bright new Aeron chair.  I ordered it this morning and it arrived about four hours later, complete with a free ergonomic consultation from a nice chap called Sam.

I used to have an Aeron in my old business but they’ve really improved them in the last six years.

  • First, I got one with the optional aluminium chassis. How cool is that?
  • Second, there’s an adjustable lumbar support.
  • Third, the seat can tilt forward for typing.

Did I mention the shiny aluminium?

I have had a rubbish chair for so long that I forgot what a good chair is like.  I spend about eight hours a day sat in front of my PC so it’s an important investment in my productivity and health.

Plus it’s made from aluminium. Pimp my chair!

My friend Claire has just done a massage course and she’s using me as a guinea pig for her technique so I’m getting these two-hour massages.  Between that and the chair, my back is going to have a holiday.

Does anyone have any experience of Anthro desks?  I’m thinking of ordering a new desk to go with my new chair. I’d love to get some feedback.

    What a beautiful chair.

And delivery within four hours, splendid!

    Have fun 🙂

  2. Thanks for the upbeat post – your enthusiasm brought a smile to my face on this cold January day. I bought myself a Vaio laptop post-Christmas – and it’s green (my brand colours) and so beautiful that I love looking at it. Your Aeron chair has the same aesthetic appeal that makes owing a work tool feel worth the expenditure. I hope it gives your bottom many hours of comfortable pleasure.

  3. Geez, what a beauty! Are you sure you’re qualified to operate this thing, Matt? It looks like one false move and you’re skewered! 🙂 Definitely high on the kool-meter though!

  4. It’s so comfortable, I haven’t got up since it arrived. However, all those cups of tea are beginning to bother me. I may have to leave my beloved chair for a few minutes, but at least I can appreciate the aerospace-grade aluminium shininess again when I return.

I used to work with a guy whose primary praise of the Aeron chair was it’s flow-through material, which allowed him to pass gas unimpeded. Thank god I don’t work there anymore.

sorry about it’s instead of its. On a writing blog of all places

  7. Don’t worry about the typo. I wish I had a pound for every typo I make on this blog. My view is that perfect punctuation requires time or money (to pay a proofreader). I blog in my spare time for fun, so you’re gonna get typos. So, I can’t blame visitors if they make mistakes!

As for farting in the Aeron, I work in an office on my own! Say no more.

Oh Matthew – what joy! Amazingly we have these littered around on every single one of our many HQ floors, but my own version is a rather dull corporate affair.

I imagine the one with aluminium undercarriage is far more empowering 🙂

The Anthro desks look pretty cool. I don’t have one of those, but I have had a Biomorph for many years, and I’ve been very happy with it.

Lovely chair. Is the aluminium more hard-wearing than the standard vinyl on the base? Most of the second-hand Aerons that come up for sale have wear on the legs.

Love the chair. This hits a real problem I have. If you work out at lunch time – then sitting on a foam chair especially in summer in Toulouse is bad news. Without going in to details – this forms a sort of perfect micro-climate for micro-organisms….so I’m not sure I can swallow the cost but maybe 2nd hand. For the desks I had a look – don’t look exceptionally different to other products on the market. I liked the wrap as a concept but then sometimes I like to layout everything on the desk…

I love the Embody Chair! It has been the best purchase I made for an office chair. Think about how much money people spend on beds and ergonomic tools. I bought mine on Ebay far below the $1600 price quoted above. Best thing I ever did! Cheers!
