Writing tools: creating and identifying fonts

Identifont is a great tool for non-designers (like me) to figure out what font a site or magazine is using. I recently did a course in typography at Central St. Martins and the designers on the course could name fonts as soon as they saw them. Very useful but the result of years of experience. Identifont levels the playing field for the rest of us.

If you want to make your own fonts, check out Fontstruct. It’s a free and it’s very easy to use. It’s very much the thing for companies (for example HP Simplified or Samsung Interface) and even governments (like gov.uk’s New Transport) to have their custom fonts and now you can too.
